Yesterday I drew up a timeline for my seventeenth-century Byne ancestors from Sussex. Today, with a little more trepidation, I’m doing something similar for my Manser forebears, whose history is closely intertwined with the Bynes. A reminder: according to Walter Charles Renshaw’s history, my 10 x great grandfather Stephen Byne of Burwash married Mary Manser, daughter of John Manser of Wadhurst, who was a son of Robert Manser of Hightown. This family tree draws on information gleaned from Renshaw, from the various family pedigrees I’ve found online, and from my own original research. At this stage, I’m reluctant to swear by its accuracy. To keep things simple, I’ve used the spelling ‘Manser’ throughout, even though the ‘Maunser’ form is used in some sources. The bracketed numbers refer to the successive generations.
